Why I Started Drawptop

The structure of school and classwork was what guided my motivation to improve my artwork. Art had always been a hobby growing up. I spent most of middle school filling my assignment notebook with funny doodles. Later, I enrolled in art classes because I knew I could dedicate a block of my day to enjoy myself in-between solving calculus problems and pretending I could solve issues the United Nations is supposed to be solving. By the time I was a senior, I found myself in Ms. Stark’s Advanced Placement Portfolio Art class, where I was tested like never before. I found the perfect balance of pushing myself to become a better artists without sacrificing the fun of it all. My preferred mediums at that point were charcoal, markers, and colored pencils. I was also very proud of the “Senior Swag” I designed for the Class of 2015.

Soon I was attending The George Washington University School of Business to study marketing. I was required to seek a minor in something other than business. It only felt right to explore graphic design at The Corcoran. While I was practicing Adobe Illustrator to design merchandise and promotion materials for my fraternity, those Graphic Design classes helped me enhance my skills at inDesign and Photoshop. You can explore all of those projects I did on my behance.

After graduating college, I found myself lost. After years of being assigned projects to direct me what to create, I no longer have that infrastructure to guide me to an artistic purpose. I was like a navigator without a compass. Dora without her talking map. By why does she need a map in the first place—especially one that talks? Does that mean Dora had GPS with voice before that existed in real life? Anyways, I’ve realized that an explorer does not need to follow a preset path. I can be an artist who draws and designs whatever they want.

That is where Drawptop comes from. After spending a ridiculous amount of hours binging content like movies, TV shows, sports, web series, podcasts, and more, I’ve decided to shift my free time towards creating art inspired from that content. Doing so I hope to grow and improve as an artists, picking up new tricks while polishing others. I hope if you are reading this you will enjoy my art on my work page. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me via my contact page for feedback, business inquiries, and questions!
